Hi Justin, Kyle, and Gruia,

I changed up this Friday's schedule a bit, due to DePaul changing their
schedule as well. Here is this Friday's schedule:

  * 12:30pm: Lunch
  * 1:30pm: Group Meeting [all REU students]
  * 3:30pm: Day in the Life of a PhD Student [all students must attend]

I propose we meet at IIT, unless Kyle you want to make the meetings at
UChicago (perhaps to bring some of your summer students as well). Let me
know if you want to run the event at UChicago or not.

Next week (July 8th), our main event will be "Women in Computing", and
will be hosted by the DePaul REU site.

Does this work for everyone, note the group meeting is from 1:30pm-3pm.

Hi all,

Here is this week's schedule:

  * Normal work schedule
  * 10:30am (SB233): Xi Yang's PhD defense -- An Integrated Data Access
    System for Big Computing [all students must attend]

  * Normal work schedule

  * Normal work schedule
  * 11am (SB233): Xu Yang's PhD Proposal [all students must attend]
  * 1pm (SB233): Sean Wallace's PhD Proposal [all students must attend]

  * Argonne Field Trip [all undergrads, including REU and BSMP, all REU
    mentors, and Jian]

Friday (at IIT):

  * Normal work schedule
  * 12:30pm: Lunch
  * 1:30pm: Group Meeting [all REU students]
  * 3:30pm: Day in the Life of a PhD Student [all students must attend]

Note that there are 3 PhD defense or proposals on Monday and Wednesday.
I expect all students (undergrads, MS, and PhD students) in the BigDataX
and DataSys groups to attend these presentations. These presentations
will be in the general area of distributed systems and will give you a
very good sense of what it takes to tackle a PhD dissertation. Please
consult your REU mentors if you should attend. If you cannot attend
these talks for any reason, please let me know.
