Hello. I am a 3rd year undergraduate at Loyola University of Chicago. I am interested in the internship on Big Data. I want to try and enroll but my overall GPA is in close proximity of a 3.0. Is a CS GPA above 3.3 not sufficient?

An interested student,

-Danny Martin

Dear Greater-Chicago area colleagues:
I, along with several of my colleagues (Gruia Calinescu [IIT], Mike Wilde [UC/ANL], and Justin Wozniak [UC/ANL]) have received a NSF award to establish a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site at IIT/UC on the topic of Big Data, see http://datasys.cs.iit.edu/grants/BigDataX/2015/index.html. We will be running the program for 3 summers, starting the summer of 2015, with 8 undergraduate students spending 10 weeks doing research at IIT or UC. I wanted to reach out to you to ask for your help in recruiting bright undergraduate students that you might know and think that they might be a good fit for our program. We have mentors in a wide range of expertise, from languages, run-time systems, storage, to theory, all focused on issues in Big Data at extreme scales. If you could forward the announcement below to any potentially interested students (no prior research experience required), we would greatly appreciate it!

Ioan (on behalf of the BigDataX team)
