Abstract

A review of some of the current application landscape that is utilizing supercomputers for many-task computing will be given. This discussion will be focused on the experience that the BlueGene team has had in interacting with an array of users in a space that until recently was virtually nonexistent. This is due to many factors such as... reliability, power efficiency, scale and cost/performance. These factors will be discussed in some detail exploring how they have led to supercomputers being an attractive platform for many task computing. In addition, some of the issues and trends expected in the near and long term future for this emerging area will be discussed.
